AN INCIDENT THAT TAUGHT ME THE VALUE OF HEALTH

I was introduced to Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) which developed by United Nations (UN) for the first time during my first semester in university. There are 17 goals of SDG and among all of them, only one goal had grabbed my attention and it is Good Health and Well-being. There are several reasons why this goal can easily grab my attention. Firstly, this Good Health and Well-being goal is related to two out of five principles of Maqasid Shariah which are Protection of Life (Hifdh Al Nafs) and Protection of Intellect (Hifdh Al ‘Aql). Next, whenever I noticed this goal, it reminds me to a tragic incident which happened to me when I was in secondary school. It is an injury known as shoulder dislocated.

The morning before the incident happens, I together with a group of friends were asked to send piles of books to the school library. It was the Physical Education and Health class or known in Malay language as Pendidikan Jasmani dan Kesihatan (PJK) class when we were given the task. We supposed to arrive at school field early during the class because we are going to play sports and before that all students are required to warm up first. As soon as we finished the task, we rushed to the school field to attend the class. Once we reach the school field, other students had finished with warming up and they already started with sports activity. Without doing any warm-up, we joined them. Even though I realized that injury might happen if I neglect warm-up, I still chose to play volleyball with my friends over warm-up.

I really enjoyed with the volleyball game during the class. I keep playing without worrying anything as I assume nothing serious will happen. Unfortunately, when I tried to smash the ball with my left hand, I felt unusual pain at my shoulder. I fell to the floor, and I could not lift my left hand. Whenever I touched my shoulder, I could feel that my arm bone is no longer located in the socket in the shoulder blade. It was shoulder dislocated! The injury happened beyond my expectation. I shouted for help resulting numbers of friends rushed towards me. They tried their best to cure my injury meanwhile I started to regret for not warming up at the first place.

Finally, one of my friends named Danial Fikri who is a member of Red Crescent Society had successfully located my arm bone in the socket in the shoulder blade back. I thanked him for helping me because if he was not there, I might be sent to hospital. I sat at the corner of the volleyball court and started to think. I should not neglect the warm-up. I should not refuse having healthy food in my meals. The incident happened 3 years ago really taught me the value of health. Perfect and healthy physical is the most valuable bounty from God because it helps to ease our daily life routine. Starting from the day, I have never neglect warm-up and eating healthy food to prevent my body from any harm and disease. As conclusion, health is wealth.
